SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
Board of Education Regular Meeting - Monday, November 14, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. @ Memorial
SCHOOL CLOSED
The Washington Borough School District will be closed for the NJEA Convention on November 10 and 11, 2011.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on November 7, 8, and 9, 2011. The Memorial and Taylor Street Schools will be on
compressed schedule all three days. Schools will dismiss as follows: Memorial at 12:45 p.m., Taylor Street at 1:00 p.m., with
kindergarten AM and PM sessions held during the AM session - 8:30 a.m. - 11:20 a.m., Pre-K and Preschool AM and PM sessions held
during the AM session - 8:35 a.m. - 10:55 a.m.
AFTER 3 PROGRAM
Reminder: On the compressed school day, (November 7, 8, 9) After 3 will be open the following hours:
Memorial School - 12:45 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. Taylor Street - 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
After 3 is accepting a limited number of children for the after care program for the compressed schedule days. This is only for those
children not currently attending the program. Cost per day is $10.00. Any questions please call 689-3336.
PHOTO RETAKES
Lifetouch Studios will be here for photo retakes and absentee students on Thursday, November 3, 2011. Students wanting a retake need
to bring their original pictures to the camera.
BLACKBOARD CONNECT - A new alert and notification service.
Through Blackboard Connect Services, the district now has the capability to contact parents via telephone and e-mail in the event of an
early dismissal, closing or delayed opening. More information will be sent home in the near future.
FIRE PREVENTION
Thank you to the Washington Borough Fire Department for visiting our schools for Fire Prevention Week. The children enjoyed seeing
the fire truck, hearing all about the fire truck and fire safety.
VENDOR FAIR AT MEMORIAL SCHOOL Memorial School will be hosting a vendor fair to showcase the Supplemental
Educational Services the district will offer beginning in January 2012. SES services will be offered to our at-risk, low income student
population. The vendor fair will take place November 8, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Memorial School.
GARDEN CLUB MEMBERS FAMILY CAMPFIRE November 4, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Come see the pumpkin display.
WARREN JR. GARDENER’S CLOTHING DRIVE 1 DAY ONLY. Tuesday, November 15, 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Bags of
clothes, shoes, towels, curtains, blankets, stuffed animals will be accepted. Any questions contact Deana Berry @ 843-458-0470.

Make a Difference Day ... November’s Spirit Day is in honor of Make a Difference Day. Please help the PTO support our local
community and teach your child the importance of helping those in need. The PTO is collecting food to be donated to the food pantry
located in the Presbyterian Church in Washington. Please be generous this holiday season.
P.T.O. Membership - It’s Not Too Late!... Only 25% of our families have joined the PTO, don’t be left out. Please support our
students and our schools, join the PTO! Simply send in $5.00 for one child or $8.00 for more than one in an envelope to your child’s
teacher with your name on it. Find-A-Friend is free with membership.
Vendor Night... Friday, November 4, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Memorial. Get a jump on early holiday shopping - all in one place and
right here in town! Check out your favorite vendors such as Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple and many more. Call Vicky Jannarone
at 689-9036 if you have any questions.
We Are Going On A Bear Hike!!... November 9, (Memorial @ 9:40-10:25/Taylor Street @ 10:40-11:25 - Kindergarten will end
their hike early and be dismissed as scheduled at 11:20). Proceeds from this special walk-a-thon will be dedicated to playground
repairs at both Memorial and Taylor. Start collecting your pennies, dimes and nickels. Class that raises the most amount of money wins
a party! Look for more details in your child’s backpack.
Find-A-Friend ... The Find-A-Friend should be out shortly. If you joined the PTO, your oldest child will be receiving it through their
teacher. If you didn’t join the PTO, there is still time. Just want a Find-A-Friend? Send $5.00 to your child’s teacher in an envelope
marked PTO Find-A-Friend with your child’s name on it.
Box Tops... Please cut and send your Box Tops in to your child’s teacher. Please cut all box tops along the pink dotted line. Thank you

Market Day... Pickup is Wednesday, November 2 at Taylor Street from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Playground will be open for convenient

FREE Daisy Girl Scout Event October 29, 10:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Rt. 31, Washington, NJ. Open to
all kindergarten and 1st grade girls interested in becoming a Daisy Girl Scout. Join us to make a craft, sing songs, meet new friends,
have a snack and find out how much fun being a Daisy Scout can be! Must RSVP by October 22 to attend. Contact Patty Smith at

Warren Hills Haunted High School October 29, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Warren Hills High School. $5.00 for students and kids,
$7.00 for adults. $1.00 off if you come in costume!
Jr. Streaks Halloween Dance is being held on Friday, October 28, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Ballroom located above the Wells
Fargo Bank in Washington. This dance is for 5th and 6th grades only and the cost is $5.00 per ticket. Please see any Jr. Streak Coach or

HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARADE
On Sunday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m., the Children’s Halloween Costume Parade will be held (rain or shine) at the Washington Fire
House, 100 Belvidere Avenue. Top 5 costumes will receive prizes. Refreshments ... cider and donuts.

Street Hockey 2011 Boys and Girls in grade K-8 are eligible to play. Non-Refundable Registration Fee. Boro Residents $50 per
participant, not to exceed $80 per family. Non Boro Residents $60 per participant, not to exceed $100 per family. Late Registration
Fee: $15 per participant, regardless of family limit, applies after November 1, 2011. Registrations can be mailed to: Washington
Borough Hall, Attn: Recreation Dept. 100 Belvidere Ave., Washington, NJ 07882 or in person Monday thru Friday 9a.m. -12p.m.
