Mission & Vision

Mission

The Washington Borough School District is committed to ensuring that every student is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to achieve academic excellence and lifelong success. Guided by Wildly Important Goals, we prioritize early literacy and numeracy as the essential foundations of learning, ensuring all students become proficient readers by Grade 3 and confident, analytical problem-solvers by Grade 6.

In Washington Borough, foundational mastery is not the ceiling of achievement; it is the starting point from which students are empowered to grow, lead, and excel. Through rigorous instruction, meaningful, continued support, and a culture of personal accountability, resilience, and perseverance, we inspire our students to embrace challenge and continued growth,  utilizing their education as a gateway to limitless opportunity and lifelong success.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to be a diverse and inclusive community where equity is the engine of achievement. We celebrate our differences while holding every student to the highest academic standards, ensuring that race, ethnicity, or social class never define a child's potential. We empower our students to become confident, vigorous learners who have the tools to "show what they know" and the resilience to pursue their dreams with enthusiasm.

Core Values

The Washington Borough "GROW" Framework

In Washington Borough, we don’t just learn...we GROW. We reinforce a work ethic comprised of grit, perseverance, and the celebration of every student's wins.

G – Good Choices

We believe that character is defined by the paths we choose when faced with easy or negative options. We empower our students to think before they act, to resist the "easier" path of apathy or distraction, and to consistently choose the harder, more rewarding path that leads to self-improvement and positive solutions.

R – Respect

We believe that a strong community is built on mutual dignity. We celebrate the cultural, intellectual, and social diversity within our halls, recognizing that every student and staff member brings a unique perspective that makes our district stronger. We foster a school environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and ready to learn together.

O – Ownership

We believe in the power of transparency and accountability. Taking ownership means admitting to our flaws and owning our mistakes without excuses. We utilize restorative practices to help students acknowledge when they’ve veered off track, make it right, and move forward with a plan to be better. We don't hide from our errors; we own them, learn from them, and grow.

W – Work Hard

As a hardworking community, we approach our challenges with vigor and grit. We don’t shy away from the heavy lifting of rigorous academics; instead, we embrace the struggle as the necessary path to success, understanding that persistence is the ultimate key to a better future.
