Superintendent of Schools
Dear Washington Borough Families,
Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! I hope you enjoyed a summer filled with relaxation, family time, and new memories. As we begin a new school year, our schools are filled with energy, excitement, and a renewed commitment to helping every student thrive.
We are especially excited to welcome our newest learners in preschool and kindergarten, as well as new staff members who bring fresh energy and expertise to our schools. Whether your child is walking into our classrooms for the very first time or returning to familiar hallways, we want every student to feel a sense of belonging and excitement for what’s ahead.
This past summer, our dedicated buildings and grounds team was hard at work preparing our schools for an even better academic year. At Taylor Street School, our students will be able to enjoy newly renovated bathrooms. Additionally, we have completed major electrical upgrades in both Taylor Street and Memorial School. These upgrades have enabled us to add air conditioning to every classroom across the district, ensuring a more comfortable and optimal learning environment for everyone.
In addition to our campus improvements, we have also invested in new resources to support our students’ academic growth. We have added more new touchscreen Chromebooks to our inventory which will allow students to interact with on-screen tools and virtual tutors more fluidly. We are also excited to introduce Brainfuse, a new online tutoring company available to our students who qualify for intervention. This safe, encrypted platform provides a tremendous tool for student success, and we're particularly excited that all virtual sessions will be video recorded and shared with parents, administrators, and the tutor, allowing families to easily review lessons and reinforce newly learned concepts.
We are excited to share that this year, we are also introducing our new Math Curriculum, Desmos Math from Amplify. Our Core Team and Math Curriculum Review Team reviewed several curriculums before selecting Desmos Math. This new program makes math more engaging and hands-on using manipulatives and digital learning tools. Most importantly, it brings mathematical concepts to life by linking them to the real world in situations and projects that require higher-level thinking. We are very excited for all that this new program has to offer our teachers and students toward building the foundational math skills necessary for long-term success.
Importantly, one of my goals this year is to ensure fluid and collaborative communication with our families. Your feedback is invaluable, and it helped us make a key change: we have gone back to a staggered schedule, offsetting the start and end times for Taylor Street and Memorial School by 15 minutes to make the morning drop-off and afternoon pickup more fluid. We hope you will also enjoy this SMORE newsletter, our social media presence on Facebook and Instagram, and our robust school website and our "Bears Den 7 Taps" messages, keeping you informed of all that goes on in Washington Borough Schools.
We are excited to continue the momentum building here at Washington Borough and look forward to the amazing academic and social-emotional growth of our students.
Sincerely,
Frank Esposito Superintendent
